New Release of TCS MasterCraft™ TransformPlus 5.0 Uses ML to Enhance Legacy Application Modernization

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, released a major new version of TCS MasterCraft™ TransformPlus, which leverages Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to more effectively analyze applications during modernization. This enriches user annotation in both program flow and technical specification documentation during the analysis of COBOL applications.

TCS MasterCraft TransformPlus is an intelligent automation product that significantly accelerates end-toend application modernization, including mainframe modernizations, and supports a wide range of legacy and modern programming languages. It is a proven, industry-agnostic solution that analyzes legacy code, extracts business rules, and documents them in standard templates. TransformPlus builds new application components by auto-generating cloud-ready code in microservices architecture based on user-fed specifications. It migrates legacy applications to the cloud through automated remediation and refactoring. TransformPlus also automates the transformation of enterprise data from legacy to new-age databases seamlessly.

With this latest release, TransformPlus 5.0 can reverse engineer legacy application codes more effectively. Users can now more accurately document job and program details for COBOL applications and subsystems, such as process flow, record structure, dependent systems, file layout and database details. They can view the document within the product or download it for ongoing maintenance as well as for future modernizations. The automation significantly improves productivity in documentation. In addition, TransformPlus now helps customers automate the conversion of JCL batch component statements to equivalent Java Spring batch statements.

Vijayalakshmi Gopal, Business Head, TCS MasterCraft™, said, “TransformPlus 5.0 uses machine learning to bring in further intelligence in the analysis and understanding of legacy code. We are continuously expanding TransformPlus’ technology coverage from COBOL to PL1, AS/400 RPG as well as enhancing the automated refactoring of COBOL to Java.”

According to The Forrester Wave™: Application Modernization and Migration Services, Q3 20211 , “In the 2021 market for application modernization and migration services, we’re witnessing a continuing shift toward modernization enabled by advanced cloud-native technologies, with a correspondingly lower emphasis on infrastructure-led lift-and-shift migration… The market is also characterized by higher degrees of automation, including the growing importance of service delivery accelerators, quality enablers, and vertical-industry-specific assets.” The report goes on say that “[TCS] leverages its Mastercraft development technologies… for aspects of digital transformation and app modernization. TCS’ preference for organic development is a differentiating stance amid competitors that tend to make frequent acquisitions. The company has conducted more than 4,000 modernization and migration engagements.”
